Academics at Educational Pathways Academy

Educational Pathways Academy offers a well-researched, multimodal, and strengths-based approach to education that provides pathways of success for students with language-based learning disabilities. Our Comprehensive Approach to Learning instills an (often newfound) love of learning by nurturing talents and strengths.

EPA’s Comprehensive

Approach to Learning

has been designed to effectively and comprehensively address the needs and challenges of students with learning differences. Our educational approach utilizes evidence-based methods and approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, hands-on, multi-sensory activities, individualized learning, assistive technology, and more.

What will your child’s environment be like?

At Educational Pathways Academy, we witness every day how an academic environment that brings joy, happiness, and confidence creates an atmosphere in which students succeed. For this reason, our school day is designed to engage students in a wide variety of academic and enrichment activities. These activities extend well-beyond reading intervention and remediation. Explore examples of student activities in the videos below.

Our Students are SuccEeding!

Students who attend EPA have significant learning differences, which render the content, format, psychological and environmental factors associated with standardized testing largely irrelevant. EPA student outcomes on standardized tests are likely to vary significantly from the general population because their minds simply work differently than how standardized tests are designed. Acknowledging this to be the case, we have nevertheless used select standardized tests to gauge the effectiveness of EPA’s Comprehensive Approach to Learning to inform staff and teacher development.

In the Spring of 2019, we assessed 17 students “before and after EPA” scores on two widely-used standardized tests. The students had been engaged in EPA learning methods for at least 18 months at the time of testing.  For reading and math, the average score grew by 30 and 21 percentage points, respectively.  This is 6 times better than the annual overall national growth of less than 5 percentile points for students with similar learning profiles.  (source: National Institute of Health, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pm/aricles/PMC4696502

EPA student outcomes are, quite frankly, astonishing!  They provide tremendous encouragement to both parents and teachers alike.

Let our students show you how they’re succeeding -- academically, socially and emotionally.

What EPA parents have to say

In our annual Parent Feedback survey, parents report that EPA has had a positive impact on their child’s self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence:

  • 100% of parents agree that EPA meets the academic needs of their child.

  • 90% of parents say that their child looks forward to going to school.

We watched our daughter struggle for years at school. Despite being on an IEP, receiving extra help from her teachers; and seeing a tutor weekly, she was not grasping many core concepts and her grades were not improving. Most importantly, her self esteem deteriorated and she came home crying many days. It was excruciating to watch and we felt helpless as parents. We knew she needed a different school environment but despite researching several options over the course of two years, we could not find the right place for her.

We were really losing hope when we found EPA. The school was LITERALLY an answer to our prayers! We immediately felt that there was something special about the school when we met Molly. Instantly we knew it was the right place for our daughter. The teachers truly care about each and every child. The curriculum is designed to help her really learn and succeed. As a result, our daughter has flourished. She is understanding what she is being taught, which is reflected in her consistently getting A’s and B’s on her report cards. She never cared about her grades before, but now she is motivated to do well. But even better than that, her self esteem is back. She is happy and confident; and feels loved, safe and accepted at school. EPA has been truly life changing for her. Our daughter has become who she is today as a direct result of her experience at this school.

Our son was diagnosed with a language-based learning difference in the fourth grade. He struggled with standardized testing and keeping up in public school. We were so thankful when we learned about EPA and the possibilities for his future learning. Molly and the team at EPA focus on the individual learning styles of each child and we have seen such a difference in his academic progress and his self esteem! We could not be more thankful that our son has the opportunity to attend EPA.

Our daughter was diagnosed with language-based learning disabilities and ADHD at just 6 years old. We were stunned, confused, and completely unfamiliar with this whole different world and the academic implications it held for our daughter. Despite an excellent relationship with our public schools, we decided to enroll her at the earliest possible age —- 2nd grade —- at EPA. Her reading, verbal and reasoning skills have skyrocketed in just the first 4 months of partnership with the EPA staff. We feel optimistic about what the future holds for our daughter, who, without EPA’s specialized approaches and methods, would be struggling through her early elementary years.
