Brewing Connections: A Warm Welcome for New EPA Families
At Educational Pathways Academy, a private school for dyslexia and learning disabilities in Florida, we know that a strong school community begins with connection. At the start of the school year, both our Doris Frey Campus and our North Campus hosted a special welcome event for new families, Brewing Connections, a coffee hour designed to introduce families to the EPA community and each other.
From the moment parents arrived, they were greeted with warm smiles from our administrators and staff, fresh coffee, and light snacks. One of the highlights of the morning was discovering a beautiful school photo of their child waiting for them to take home, a keepsake to mark this exciting first year at EPA. Families shared about themselves, their child, and hopes for the year ahead, building meaningful connections with other parents.
It was in these introductions that the morning became especially meaningful. Parents spoke of their children’s unique gifts and talents, but also of the challenges that have impacted their confidence—stories of schools that didn’t understand, or even experiences of being told they didn’t belong. Families expressed the relief and joy of finally finding a place where their child and their whole family feels supported and understood.
Head of School, Molly Arthur, shared the story and history of EPA and gave families a glimpse into what it means to be part of the EPA family, a community built on connection and support. Parents also heard from our Principals, Vice-Principal, Pathways Parent Association (PPA) Chairs, and Director of Advancement, offering a warm introduction and an overview of the exciting journey ahead.
Our administrators encouraged families to find hope in this new beginning: here, their child is understood, their strengths are celebrated, and their differences are supported. By partnering together, parents and teachers can help students thrive on their own unique journeys.
It was a morning full of conversation, shared hopes, and the joy of finding a place where every child and every family feels welcomed and valued. Families left not only with a framed photo in hand, but also with a sense of belonging and hope in their hearts: hope that their child can succeed, hope that their family has found a place to call home, and hope in the future we are building together.
Brewing Connections reminded us that EPA is more than a school; it’s a family. And when families and our school walk this journey together, students with learning differences can truly flourish.
